Next time you sit down for a flat white at your local café, take a look around and you’ll see mobile devices everywhere.
While some will be updating their social feeds with an indulgent snap of brunch, others might be doing some work, clearing emails or searching for their new home on the Trade Me Property app.
Over a million mobile devices have now accessed the app*, presenting real estate listings to potential buyers, sellers and renters in cafés, bus stops, offices or anywhere in the country with cell-phone reception.

Trade Me Property continues as Kiwis’ preferred source of information for property, and the app is no different. Research indicates that New Zealanders visit the Trade Me Property app almost twice as much as its nearest competitor**.
The use of mobile devices to research property information has grown significantly over the past two years. Half of all property researchers in 2017 accessed real estate information from their mobile phone or device, compared with 35% in 2015**. The Trade Me Property app was the only New Zealand property app to have experienced growth in usage in the past year**.
“Our app users are extremely active and engaged with property listings. We’re seeing a highly motivated audience who use both desktop and mobile to find new properties. They also expect a seamless transition between their desktop and mobile browsing experience, so they consider the Trade Me Property app a natural extension for their property search.”
Mr Jeffries said that as well as the app being a great resource for house hunting buyers, given its high growth and engagement, it’s also a perfect platform for agents and agency brands to showcase themselves to buyers who are tomorrow’s potential vendors. “It's just one of the ways we see agents marketing themselves."
Mr Jeffries said the Trade Me Property team continues to invest in the app’s ongoing enhancement. “Recently we redesigned how property listings show within the app. Now we have full-width images on search results, and we prioritise agents and vendors who have Featured their listings.
“We know people are pressed for time, so we’ve made it easy to check out properties on a list or map view, save favourite property searches and use their Watchlist to narrow down their selection. Watchlisted properties are linked to their Trade Me account – not just saved in the app – so their favourites are on-hand no matter whether they continue browsing on mobile or desktop.
“Buyers, sellers and renters expect to be able to access property listings, insights and other information anytime and anywhere, regardless of their location.”
